Steps
- Compare how buyers find you. TikTok buyers come from the For You feed, short videos and affiliates. Whatnot is built around live shows, with an always-on marketplace alongside, and is strongest in collectibles, fashion and beauty.
- Compare fee bases. TikTok's referral fee (6% for most categories) includes buyer-paid shipping. Whatnot's commission (8% at the standard tier, lower at higher monthly sales tiers) is on the item price only, plus 2.9% + $0.30 processing per order.
- Compare formats. Whatnot is auction-first. TikTok's strength is Buy It Now and pinned products; auctions are allowed only in permitted categories.
- Compare cash flow. Whatnot earnings are usually available up to 4 hours after delivery. TikTok pays 31 days after delivery for new shops, and 8, 5 or 1 days for established shops depending on SPS.
- Shipping is the same deadline. Both want orders shipped within 2 business days.

Common Mistakes
- Choosing on fee rate alone and ignoring payout timing.
- Assuming Whatnot's SPS and TikTok's SPS are the same. They're different things.
- Running Whatnot-style auctions in a category TikTok doesn't permit.
