The 5 Numbers Live-Selling Owners Should Track Weekly

The owner’s scorecard for knowing whether live-selling growth is making the business stronger — or simply busier.

Takeaway

A number earns its place on your weekly page only if a change in it would change what you do.

Your dashboard is full.

GMV. Sold count. Watchers. Units. Fees. Refunds. Pack times. Bin counts. Someone always has another chart.

Here’s the owner problem: most of those numbers describe activity. Only a few change a Monday decision.

If a metric doesn’t help you buy, hire, cut, fix a path, or kill a format — it doesn’t belong on the weekly scorecard. It can live in a deeper report. It shouldn’t own your week.

This guide is the owner’s scorecard for live-selling businesses: five areas, the traps that fool you, and a decision principle you can run every week.

The Decision Principle

Activity tells you what happened. A problem metric tells you where it hurts. A decision metric tells you what to do next.

Weekly scorecard rule: if it doesn’t change a decision, it doesn’t belong here.

Mark every number you track as Recorded, Estimated, Unknown, or N/A. Blank is not zero. Don’t invent neatness.

1. Show Economics

Question: After the costs this show caused, what did it leave behind?

Show economics — what to watch and what it decides.

Show contribution $ (and %)Leftover after COGS, fees, giveaways, labor, fulfillment, attributable refunds — not company net profitRepeat / redesign / kill the format

3. Fulfillment Flow

Question: Is work moving — or is everyone just busy?

The numbers that look important — but can fool you

  • GMV / sold count — activity. Can rise while contribution falls.
  • Watcher count / chat energy — attention. Not leftover money.
  • Units per hour without complexity — a bundle-heavy hour is not a single-SKU hour.
  • “Refund rate” alone — a symptom. Doesn’t name the leak.
  • Label printed = shipped — not the same as scanned on the platform’s clock.
  • Inventory “on hand” without available-to-sell — the sheet can lie while the aisle is empty (or full of unpickable stock).
  • Everyone looks busy — waiting and searching wear the same face as packing.

How To Run The Weekly Scorecard

  1. Pick five numbers — one from an area that hurt lately, not forty from every dashboard.
  2. Mark each Recorded / Estimated / Unknown / N/A.
  3. For each: what decision does this change this week? If none, drop it.
  4. Write one action (buy, hold, hire, fix path, kill format, attack refund bucket).
  5. Revisit next Monday. Same five until the decision changes.

Fill it in on screen: the Owner Metrics Scorecard — educational, no score out of a hundred, no invented red/amber/green thresholds.

Bottom Line

Growth that only adds dashboard noise is just busier.

Watch the numbers that change Monday. Make every show — and every week — worth the work.
